This vintage began with promising winter rainfall, followed by warmer-than-average summer conditions that tested the resilience of the vines. However, a timely combination of rain and cool weather slowed ripening, allowing for balanced flavour development in both the white and red wines.

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, small batches of grapes were gently crushed before undergoing fermentation in five-tonne open fermenters. Foot treading is employed to enhance extraction, leading to a wine that truly reflects the essence of McLaren Vale. After basket pressing, the wine is aged in a blend of new and used French and American oak barriques, allowing for complexity and depth to develop.

The 2014 Footbolt Shiraz embodies the quintessence of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Aromas of black pepper, baking spices, and liquorice mingle with red and black plummy berry fruit, while subtle notes of forest floor, aged oak, and seasoned leather add layers of complexity. On the palate, dark fruit, blood orange, charcuterie, and earthy undertones are supported by robust, chewy tannins, leading to a long, spicy, and mineral-driven finish.
