It's spritz season! 3 ways to dress up every millennial’s favourite
The Aperol Spritz was the drink of the season last spring, and we don’t think it’s going anywhere as the weather heats up again.
It’s simple. Classic. And best of all, it’s tasty.
So how are we going to put a spin on the 2018 favourite to move it into 2019?
Typically, a spritz involves some kind of wine - usually a bubbly prosecco - something bitter - a spirit and, you know, bitters! - and soda water.
Spritz basics
For a standard spritz, all you need is booze and soda water.
Grab -
- A liqueur
- A sparkling wine
- Some soda
Mix together your liqueur and sparkling in a 2:3 ratio (heavier on the wine) in an ice-filled glass.
Top with a splash of soda water. Garnish, serve and enjoy.
Now you’ve mastered the golden spritz ratio, let’s get flavour specific.
Specific spritzes
Negroni Sbagliato
Love a negroni but looking to lighten it up for spring? Swap out the gin for some sparkling. You’ll drop the alcohol content, and up the bubble factor.
Split your dose of liqueur between sweet vermouth and campari.
Top with prosecco. Leave the soda (it’s a lighter negroni, but still primarily booze).
Garnish with an orange twist.
White Wine Spritzer
We covered this classic back when we learnt how to dress up the ‘bad’ wine on your rack by turning it into a delicious cocktail or two.
You’ll feel like you’re taking a trip back to the 80s - but don’t forget, retro is in!
Skip the liqueur altogether and mix three parts wine to one part soda water.
Add some bitters and a slice of orange if that’s your thing. Or, if you’ve spritzed a drier wine, go for a slice of lemon.
Pimms Spritz
A classic Pimms pairs perfectly with a warm day - so why not spritz it up?
Mix two parts Pimms with three parts prosecco. Instead of soda water, top with ginger ale. Throw in the usual fruit that you’d find in a Pimms Cup - strawberries, cucumber, orange, lemon and mint.
Delicious.
Of course, if it is the classic you’re after…
Go for two parts Aperol, to three parts prosecco, topped with soda water. Garnish with a slice of orange and serve in an Insta-worthy glass.
